Electric Cars
61Electric Cars
I have been fascinated by the Electric Cars. If you have not seen the video Who Killed The Electric Car, I strongly recommend that you view this video. After watching this eye opening documentary, I wondered who would have the foresight and tamarity to move forward with this extremely viable technology. In researching this topic even further, I wondered if a car company could appeal to both style and social consciousness. I wondered if someone would come up a battery that would allow for longer distances on a charge. For those who can afford it, there is a company called Tesla Motors located in San Jose California. They have a very stylish roadster with a waiting list for this car. At a little over $100,000 for the roadster, it is priced in both U. S. dollars and Euros.Tesla Motors is selling to a European as well as a U. S. clientele. Did I mention the company has a waiting list of customers?
In examing the blogs for the company I discovered that the persons who could easily afford this car, were concerned about how and where to plug the car in. It was a matter of combining social awareness regarding Global Warming with the convenience of driving the vehicle. It made me realize that whether you are in the market to purchase an expensive electric car or a more affordable electric car, the concern about convenience will come up. Is this really a concern or a misconception? How many miles do we drive in a day? Many people do not drive over 60 miles a day. Electric cars would be good for around town or short distances but in the case of the Tesla, the range on a charge is over 200 miles which is a substantial distance compared to other electric cars. However paying over six figures is not affordable for most individuals.
There are some more affordable alternatives such as Zenn but it is presently designed for driving at speeds of up to 25 miles an hour. Zenn is working on model to be available in 2009 which should reach speeds of up to 100mph and obtain up to over 200 miles on one charge. http://www.zenn.com/.
For the real DYI enthusiast there is a person who converted an old car himself. It is completely electric. A link to his site is included below.
So in answer to the documentary Who killed the Electric Car, the car was killed but not the idea. Not only is the concept of the electric car alive and well, the infrastructure is being worked on as we speak.

If the new Eestor battery works, you can practically afford to have a fifty or sixty thousand dollar car, because you can afford a huge car payment, not having to pay for gas.

I want a Tesla, seriously. If I ever become stinking rich (which I think is not likely but we never really know what's around the corner) the first thing I'm gonna buy is a Tesla. Thanks for this informative and need hub!
